Orchard Management Training
17 November, 2021 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
Join expert Graeme Cross to learn how to better manage your orchard.
Restorative Pruning and Care of Fruit Trees
Venue: Hezlett House Orchard, Castlerock
Time: 10 a.m. to 4 pm
This one day event will cover a range of topics to support the health and productivity of your home garden fruit tree or mini-orchard, including;
• How fruit trees crop, and the principles of pollination
• The basics of restoration and maintenance pruning
• Planning your pruning programme
• Tree nutrition
• Pests and diseases of note and their control
The morning session will be an indoor screen presentation on these subjects, and will provide an opportunity to ask questions or raise points for later discussion.
This will be followed by a practical pruning demonstration in the afternoon, using the established trees in the Hezlett House orchard.
The training will be led by Graeme Cross (Department of Agriculture, Environment & Rural Affairs) who worked as the Tree Fruit Development Adviser for DAERA from 2003 to 2017.
By the end of the event, you should be better able to manage your apple, pear, plum or cherry tree for optimal health and cropping, and feel a little more confident about tackling any home orchard pruning projects.
Please follow the current social distancing guidelines. Wear a mask when indoors and keep 2m apart at all times.
