Bracken Bashing at the Moors of Castlerock
17 August, 2021 @ 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm
Join us to help tackle bracken on the moors of Castlerock as part of our wider habitat restoration plan for the area.
Over the last decade the site at the Moors of Castlerock has been overrun by bracken, which now dominates the site, shading out all the native species and has resulted in degradation of the habitat. We need your help to give it a good bashing to get it under control and help us to return this habitat to its former glory!
We will meet at the small car park beside Hays Caravan Park. From Tunnel Brae car park, head past the row of basalt houses on the left, down the single track road with the caravan park the right. The meeting point is the small carpark at the end of this road.
What to bring
Please wear study footwear, long trousers and a long sleeved top as ticks are a possibility on site. A hat, sun-cream and insect repellent are advisable. Bring water and a snack and please stay hydrated during the event. Tea/coffee and tray bakes will be available at the end of the session. Bracken produces spores at the end of the season (September), but should you feel more comfortable wearing a mask, please bring one with you.
